Accidentally typed in art.gnome.org instead of gnome-look.org and guess what I saw, my background image from before I used linux was the top of the top 10, its pry a fluke, I have 7 votes, but sure, I’ll brag.

Over the rest of the summer I have a job. So I won’t be on much. Durring the free time I do have I will not be online. Sorry. I am going to take that time to clean up my computer file by file, email by email, folder by folder. I will start by evaluating keeping with ubuntu, switchiing linux distros or moving back to windows. I do like ubuntu greatly but decided why not look.
I have a few blog posts lined up so this site will not go dark. Also that is the other change I plan to make. This site will switch hosts. Maybe going temporarily to unixpod.com but eventually to me, my and I’s home server which will become my own public web server. While I do have port 80 open I do not link this domain, or any to my computer. I need to take the time to make sure I have all hack guards up, please don’t TRY to hack me. So if this does go dark, you have my permission to yell at me. Go ahead
(that said it WONT go down so you wont have a need to yell at me, ha!)
I did get a lot done with Galaxy Collaboration while in Florida (yes, I did code I was bad) and I plan to upload it eventually. But I got home seconds ago and just had to use my own computer, I did miss it so much. And you have no clue how wonderful it is to have my own keyboard back one that I am fully used to.
I also have full documentation on planned featuers in galaxy for all those who care or who only want to know what it will do but don’t plan to install it. Near November I do plan a private BETA for any interested party, you will get an account do mannage what you please and unlimited disk space (within reason, if you start filling up my server or go over 10% with video and images I will kindly say, stop.)
So that is about it. ENJOY YOUR LIVES!!!
Ever since the new YouTube player came out of BETA, its sucked. The videos don’t load as fast. I can’t fastforward because there isn’t anything loaded. Also, for all the great content I hear about on YouTube I can’t find any. Sure one or two videos are good, but there are millions, so I should find quite a few. So I am not very happy with them, as of now…..
After using a friend’s macbook pro for a few weeks now (the whole no computer over vacation failed) I must say, Leopard is great. Spaces works great and I don’t miss the cube as much as I though I would. The slide transition is nice but I wish I could drag a windows between spaces (you have to go into a special view, think expo, and drag your windows around). Some apps freak out a bit when you move spaces (ones made for previous version only) and the transparent bar is nice (I wish Ubuntu would impliment a unified menu bar HINT HINT).
So another 5/5 to apple. I guess I will be buying a mac as my next computer.
Well after careful analysis of the me services, I can only say finally! But I needed only the line “Exchange for the rest of us” to make up my mind. I, a frequent user of random computers, have move all my important data to the cloud long ago. But they went beyond giving you a disk. Looking at the web apps they made (I wish the had not called them web 2.0 because they aren’t, and apple is only using it as a buzz word) I know from expirance, a lot of work went into them (this may be a run on sentence).
I know as soon as I get some money **coughs loudly** I’ll sign up. And when I get my über cool 3G iPhone I won’t stop using it.
In retrospective, the push service works a lot better than I thought (hey, its what you get for judging something from pattchy and of questionable legality audio feeds from WWDC). In fact I think it make great use of cloud computting. And on a side note (or two) I think that this is a new way of looking at cloud computting. Not as let’s build webapps but as let’s build a great desktop client that is well synced to the web. And products like Adobe Air allow that. So I look forward to seeing more of that, not just on iPhone but windows, mac and Linux.
Second, where is microsoft in all this. They need to get going if they want any chance of holding up in the world of cloud computting. Silverlight and live are attempts but nor good enough. I don’t dislike microsoft because I am a Linux user. I don’t like their products. There are plenty of things I don’t like about Linux. One being people like adobe aren’t there writing apps. But I wouldnt buy them if they did pot photoshop. I Ise Linux because I can get darn close versions of any app I need free. And firbne that is a huge plus….. Hmm ok here is my topic and I somehow got all the way out there. Back to apple…..
Me.com should be a big hit with non geeks too. I mean if I try to explain exchange server to my mom…. less than good luck. But saying “now do nothing and all your stuff will be up to date”. Now that works. And features like the additions to iDisk to move large files is great. Now I can out my pirated movies on me.com for my friends to download… did I say that out loud? Jokes aside, I can’t count how many times I’ve uploaded files to my web server and emailed people links to then. Now people can do that without FTP or ssh know-how.
All I am really doing is repeating myself. So I’ll finish and say apple has created a compelling suite if services that work smothly together. iPhone 1.0 was a joe to use. The SDK was a joe to use. So I can only expect the same from the rest of their services. 5/5 for me.com and iPhone 2.0.
